Docker
A container image that runs identically on a developer’s machine, in CI and in production, which removes most of an entire category of deployment argument.
When we would argue against it
A container is not a security boundary on its own and does not make an application portable by itself. We do not let an image become the place configuration goes to hide.
What it looks like in delivery
Small multi-stage images, non-root users, pinned base images and dependency scanning in the pipeline. An image that nobody can rebuild from source is a liability rather than an artefact.
